Regional Tournament Coordinator
Best Shot Foundation is offering qualified students an exciting internship opportunity to help organize our national dodgeball tournament in local cities. Successful applicants will get a chance to work with the founder and former executive director of the Save Darfur Coalition, get experience planning and implementing a large scale charity event, and will receive a $1000 stipend upon completion of the project.

  • a commitment to humanitarian causes;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • the ability to work unsupervised and motivate yourself;
  • experience with student groups (preferred);
  • experience organizing events (preferred);
  • a strong track record of responsiveness and reliability

Regional Tournament Coordinators will receive hands-on experience helping to plan a landmark event that is part of a national movement to end childhood pneumonia. His/her primary role will be to organize a dodgeball tournament and support participating teams as they raise funds and collect signatures. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable, with a passion for humanitarian causes. The Regional Tournament Coordinator position provides valuable, real-world experience for those planning to enter the not-for-profit, marketing, or event-planning fields after graduation.

We will support any student who takes on this internship as part of an independent study through his/her school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete Regional Tournament Coordinator training (will be completed remotely by phone)
  • Assist with the research and selection of a local venue for the tournament
  • Recruit 32 teams of 15 people to participate
  • Reach out to key campus organizations to assist with the tournament.
  • Support teams as they raise money for the fight against pneumonia by monitoring teams’ progress, offering advice, and providing motivation
  • Educate teams on the rules of the game and tournament
  • Assist with the recruitment and supervision of tournament volunteers
  • Distribute marketing materials on campus and in the community
  • Work on campus and in the community to display signage both in advance of and during the tournament
  • Execute tournament with assistance from national office and volunteers

Description of the Organization
The Best Shot Foundation started in April of 2009 under the direction of David Rubenstein, the founder and former Executive Director of the Save Darfur Campaign. After seeing the success Save Darfur had on campuses across the nation, David saw an opportunity to mobilize students around another pressing international crisis, childhood pneumonia.

Pneumonia kills more children worldwide than malaria, the measles, and HIV/AIDS combined. The young lives that are lost to this disease fall disproportionately on the underprivileged children of the world's developing nations. More tragic still is how little attention is given to this deadly disease. Most Americans are simply unaware that pneumonia kills more than four million people each year.

At the Best Shot Foundation, we believe America's university students can be the driving force behind a movement that will save millions.

Terms of Employment
  • Position starts immediately and runs through April
  • Approximately 10 hours a week
  • Stipend of $1000

Regional Tournament Coordinators will receive training and support from the Best Shot Foundation national team in Washington, DC.
