The Best Shot Foundation is excited to be working with talented people around the country who are joining us to make a difference in children's lives around the world. One way people are getting involved is through the Regional Tournament Coordinator Internship position. This role provides a college student or graduate with the opportunity to help us build the Pnock Out Pneumonia tournament in their area, correspond with and learn from their peers in other cities, and bring this inaugural event to their city.
The 2010 Tournament Coordinators are:
Ann Arbor, Michigan: Allison Goldstein
Allison Goldstein is a senior and a Communications major at the University of Michigan. She was formerly a production intern at NPR's Michigan Radio in Ann Arbor and worked as an editorial intern at mediabistro.com in New York City. In addition to traveling through eight countries, Allison perfected her flamenco dancing skills while spending a spring semester in Sevilla, Spain. Highly involved on campus, Allison is looking forward to reaching out to student organizations and the larger Ann Arbor community. With years of summer camp dodgeball experience under her belt, Allison can’t wait to get others as enthusiastic about the Pnock Out Pneumonia Tournament as she is.

Atlanta, Georgia: Allison Gross
Allison Gross is currently a senior at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, concentrating on Marketing and Social Enterprise. She has held various marketing internships focusing on projects relating to social media, collateral development, and strategic communication. She serves as the Director of Outreach for the Emory Economic Development Initiative, overseeing all efforts to raise funds and promote a proactive, interdisciplinary approach to global development. Allison trained in classical ballet growing up and continues to dance at Emory with the AHANA dance group. Dodgeball was a regular activity in Allison’s PE classes growing up, and she admits to seeing the Vince Vaughn movie dozens of times.

Austin, Texas: Jayme Daniel
Jayme Daniel is a Public Relations major with a minor in African American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. She has participated in several student organizations some of which include the Mixed Student Union, Panama Brigades, and Student Leaders Pursuing Law. Through her volunteer experiences, she has grown very passionate about education reform and last summer, she interned at Teach for America’s national office. Jayme considers her internship at Teach for America one of her most rewarding experiences because it gave her the opportunity to work for a mission driven organization addressing inequities in education. As part of the Bill Archer Fellowship Program last Fall in Washington D.C., she interned with Chlopak, Leonard, Schecter & Associates. Jayme has played dodgeball since the age of five. Throughout her dodgeball experience, she loved to play the game and she also loved to win.

Boston, Massachusetts: Joe King
Joe is currently working towards his Master's in Public Health at the Boston University School of Public Health. Thropugh his studies, he has had the opportunity to work on childhood pneumonia policy issues, and attended the first World Pneumonia Day summit as a representative of BUSPH. Joe has been working on a USAID-funded research paper on the history of childhood pneumonia since May. He is looking forward to joining the Best Shot Foundation's mission to educate and raise awarenessa about pneumonia through the Pnock Out Pneumonia Tournaments.

Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Clyde Abell
Clyde is a junior Sports Administration major at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He transferred to UNC in order to take a break from his snowy hometown of Binghamton, NY and get a taste for the Southern way of life. He has participated in several charities such as Relay For Life, and the UNC Dance Marathon (a 24 hour dance event benefitting the N.C. Children's Hospital). Now, he is excited to combine his passion for sports with his love for charity. A former Captain of the 2008 and 2009 championship dodgeball team “Red Scare”, he displays remarkable familiarity with the 5 D's of dodgeball. In addition to being a former player, Clyde was Co-Creator and Commissioner of the Binghamton Dodgeball League and looks forward to utilizing his background to help the fight against childhood pneumonia!

Los Angeles, California: Jessica Vom Steeg
Jessica Vom Steeg is currently a program coordinator at Pretend City Children’s Museum in Irvine, California. In 2005, while attending college at the University of Colorado-Boulder, she began interning for the small non-profit, There With Care. She quickly grew as their program and volunteer coordinator and was offered the honor of being the first paid employee. At Pretend City, Jessica has created a volunteer program from scratch. There are over 70 volunteers who provide 600+ volunteer hours each month. Although Jessica has never played in an official dodgeball tournament, one of her favorite things to do is rally a group of people to participate in a worthy cause! Jessica is so looking forward to being a part of the first Best Shot Foundation Dodgeball Tournament!

Madison, Wisconsin: Nicole Lenz
Nicole grew up in a small town, Chilton, Wisconsin and is currently a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying English Language and Linguistics and African Languages and Literature. She works as a House Fellow in one of the university residence halls. Nicole has worked as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher for the United Way of Dane County and Americorps and volunteered abroad in Dominican Republic with International Student Volunteers. She also continued her studies of Yoruba, a West African language, abroad in Nigeria the summer of 2008. Although her dodgeball experience reflects memories of more dodging than throwing in grade school, Nicole is tickled to raise awareness about pneumonia and have some fun. She constantly strives to bridge her passions for education and social justice in order to create positive change in society, and is pumped for the progression of the Pnock Out Pneumonia Tournament.

Minneapolis, Minnesota: Kenny Smith
Kenny Smith will be your tournament coordinator in the Minneapolis/St. Paul region. He just graduated from the University of Minnesota last spring with a BA in political science and is excited to get involved with the Best Shot Foundation in his community. He grew up just outside of Minneapolis, so this is definitely his territory. Most of his work experience includes political/governmental jobs and internships; he just completed an internship in Washington, DC, in the US Senate. Besides working as the tournament coordinator this winter, he is applying to law schools for fall 2010 and honing his dodgeball skills, which haven’t been tested since probably the 5th grade (but he did see the movie). Fun fact about Kenny, his last spring break was spent in Egypt.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Jill Berman
Originally from a suburb of Philadelphia, and Kobe Bryant’s alma mater Lower Merion, Jill now studies at the University of Pennsylvania where she studies Health Policy and Consumer Psychology. Outside the classroom, Jill has an extensive history of volunteer work including the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Victim/Witness Unit, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters. Jill plans to travel to Peru this March to volunteer with severely underprivileged street children through Rustic Volunteer. She hopes to apply her business background with her enthusiasm for global health and volunteering through her position as regional coordinator for Pnock out Pneumonia and she is excited to match her passion for global health causes with her competitiveness on the dodgeball court. With her enthusiasm and dedication, she hopes to make the Philadelphia Pnock out Pneumonia Dodgeball Tournament the best thing that has happened to Philly since Rocky.
